It was another weekend of mixed results for the local USL sides, as the Orange County Blues played to a 1-1 draw against Arizona United SC, while LA Galaxy II lost 4-3 to Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2.

While the Blues bounced back from a surprising loss the previous week, the draw was something of a frustrating affair, as OC hit the woodwork a full five times in the game. Arizona United went ahead through Luke Rooney in the second half, largely against the run of play, but OC eventually found the equalizer, as Joe Baccielo scored his first goal for the club. Considering they were losing at one point, a draw isn’t a terrible result, but the bad luck in hitting the posts so many times means the game feels like a win that was lost more than anything.

LA headed to Thunderbird Stadium for a top of the table clash against Vancouver, and could not come out on top on Sunday. The Whitecaps 2 were ahead 2-0 inside the first 17 minutes, and made it 3-0 just four minutes later.

So while the final score of 4-3 may have looked on paper to have been a close game, Vancouver pretty much had it wrapped up after racing out to that lead. Jose Villarreal did score off a free kick in the 35th minute, but Vancouver added another late before Denzel Slager and Villarreal tacked on consolation goals in the dying minutes.

So the good news is that Galaxy II still have their scoring boots on but may have an issue or two on the defensive end after dropping two games in a row. They drop out of the top spot in the Western Conference, but sit just a point behind Whitecaps FC 2, who have overtaken them atop the table. LA’s next games comes Sunday against another MLS2 side, Seattle Sounders 2, up in Washington. Kick off for that game will be at 5 pm PT.

The Blues have a midweek game, Wednesday in the U.S. Open Cup against the LA Wolves FC, before returning to league action on Saturday on the road against Real Monarchs. Should be an interesting week ahead for the team.
