San Diego Loyal Soccer Club (SD Loyal) announced today the signing of Goalkeeper Amal Knight and Forward Qudus Lawal, pending league and federation approval. The players will join the Club for its inaugural USL Championship season in 2020. The first regular season home game is scheduled to take place on March 7 at Torero Stadium against the Las Vegas Lights FC.
Both Qudus and Amal saw action in SD Loyal’s first match against FC Dallas. Qudus was an integral part of the Loyal attack. Amal tended goal for the scoreless first half, often playing out of the back along with his back line — “sweeper keeper” style.
“The additions of Amal and Qudus show our continued commitment to bringing in quality people and players to SD Loyal Team 1,” said EVP of Soccer Operations and First Team Manager Landon Donovan. “Seeing them in training camp has solidified why we signed these players; both are talented, passionate and grateful to be part of this special team.”
SD Loyal brings in Jamaican professional soccer player Knight to protect the net as goalkeeper. Knight made his international debut for the Jamaican national team in 2018 and most recently played for UWI FC. Nigerian Lawal most recently comes from Fresno FC after gaining professional experience playing for the Wilmington Hammerheads, Seattle Sounders 2 and Chicago Fire FC.
Season Ticket Memberships and the SD Loyal 3-Pack are on sale now. Seats can be purchased by calling (858) 465-GOAL or at sdloyal.com/tickets.
