FC Barcelona’s San Diego Escola program is up and running! After a successful initial tryout in May, the Year-Round Program has opened an additional window of opportunity for players born between the years 2001-2011 to learn the Barca way as part of an after school program produced by a partnership between FC Barcelona and the San Diego Unified School District.
The district’s students will enjoy an exclusive opportunity to attend the free clinics and for those interested, a reduced fee to attend the year-round soccer academy will also be offered. The tuition-based academy will be open to all members of the San Diego community. Both the clinics and the academy will begin in Fall 2017, and players qualify for the year-round program by attending tryouts.
“We believe there is a place for every player in our program,” said FC Barcelona Escola Director Franc Carbo. “The objective is to take a player from whatever level they are currently at to the next level, regardless of where they start.
“Everyone knows how FC Barcelona works. Anyone you ask will know how Barca plays. We have a very specific style of attacking and moving and being creative that we’ve internalized since a long time ago. We have always respected our values, to be offensive, creative and to keep the ball. So we focus on the “clever” types, more so than the physical or fast or strong. The feet are controlled by the mind, so for us it is important to find the types with clever minds.”
The philosophy of the Escola methodology is rooted in 5 Core Values. Humility, Effort, Respect, Teamwork, and Ambition are what drives Barcelona forward and players who participate in the Escola training will have these values reinforced daily with each session.
