Newly rebranded USL team Phoenix Rising Football Club has been busy in their offseason, adding Escondido native Matthew Hurlow-Paonessa to their potent strike force, pending league and USSF approval and, per club policy, the terms of the contract will not be public. Hurlow-Paonessa most recently played with the Premier Development League’s San Diego Zest during the 2016 season after playing four years at Chico State.

“I saw him at the Ventura combine and he was a big, fast, and exciting forward that caught my eye,” said Phoenix Rising FC head coach Frank Yallop. “The more I watched him, the more I liked him. And I think his work rate and attitude should be a good asset to the club.”

Hurlow-Paonessa speed and strength helped him notch nine goals in nine matches for San Diego and eh also struck twice in Zest’s solitary playoff match.
