While many eyes are currently on the Mexican national team, Tijuana has kept busy with preparations for the upcoming 2017 Apertura. Here are some recent updates from Xolos that you might have missed.

Tijuana signs Enzo Kalinski

On Thursday morning, Xolos announced the signing of Argentine Enzo Kalinski. According to a press release from the club, Tijuana described the 30-year-old as a versatile midfielder with a “strong midrange shot.”

Although it’s tough to decipher much from reports alone, many have pointed out that Kalinski is an aggressive player with excellent ball control and distribution. As others have also noted, the Argentine appears as an ideal replacement for Guido Rodriguez, who recently left for Club America.

What does this mean for the rest of the roster? Keeping in mind that Joe Corona has a key role in the squad, and the likely inclusion of Damian Musto in the near future, let’s see if Jorge Ortiz will remain with Xolos next season.

2017 Apertura schedules

Last week, the Apertura schedule was released for the upcoming season. For those wanting to browse through the entire league schedule, you can view it here. If you’re interested in just Xolos home games, check out the Tweet below.

Also worth noting is the start of Liga MX’s women’s league (here’s the full tournament schedule). If you want to check out matches for Xolos’ women’s team at the Estadio Caliente, which are set for Saturday’s at 12:45 p.m., here’s the home game schedule.

Rumors

At this point, there are far too many reports claiming that Gustavo Bou and Musto will be joining Xolos, all that’s missing is the official confirmation once the Argentine season is over.

Defender Alejandro Donatti is also expected to be announced as an incoming player soon. Some reports indicate that the deal could be finalized with Xolos by next Monday.

Looking elsewhere, it has been difficult to find anything else regarding striker Alexis Canelo. At time of writing, it’s tough to say that Xolos are any closer to agreeing on a contract with the player and his agent.

Edit: Bou sent out this Tweet on Friday morning. Waiting for his flight to Tijuana.

Friendlies

Don’t forget about Tijuana’s two upcoming friendlies!

June 30th – vs Cuervos J.A.P. in Ensenada

July 8th – vs Leon in Las Vegas

As for any other potential friendlies, take this with a grain of salt, but some have said that there is an exhibition match in the works between Xolos and Boca Juniors in early August. No confirmations yet on whether this is true or not, or where the friendly would be held.

That’s it for now with the current updates. In the next edition, I’ll work on a Xolos depth chart that will include new players. Let’s also see how the preseason goes for manager Eduardo “Chacho” Coudet. Stay tuned!
