One of the biggest soccer stars in U.S. history and a California Homegrown athlete, Landon Donovan, picked his best 22 men as the future of Major League Soccer to play the MLS Homegrown Game coming up.
Donovan will be the coach of the Homegrown team who will play against Club America U-20 on Tuesday, July 28th, which is only one day before the MLS All-Star Game against Tottenham Hotspurs from England.
The roster picked by Donovan includes players who are already starters at MLS clubs as well as youth national teams prospects. Some notable players are Tommy Thompson from Loomis, California who currently plays as a forward for San Jose Earthquakes and is also part of the U-20 National Team; Justen Glad from Pasadena, California who is a defender for Real Salt Lake and has played with the U-17 and U-18 national teams since 2013; and Oscar Sorto from Los Angeles, California who plays as a defender for LA Galaxy and in 2013 played with the U-20 national team.
