CA Homegrowns: Weekly Update

SAN DIEGO – CA Homegrowns is a feature that tracks the progress of all of professional soccer players from California. Check out the list for some familiar names! Let us know if we left a player out!

USMNT – U.S. played against Jamaica on July 22nd for the Gold Cup semifinals for the Gold Cup semifinals, losing 2-1. On July 25th, they played Panama for the third place and also lost on PK shootouts by 3-2.

Chris Wondolowski – F – San Jose Earthquakes: Did not play against Jamaica. Started the game against Panama, played for 60 minutes, had 1 shot and committed 2 fouls, then subbed out for Clint Dempsey.

Nick Rimando – GK – Real Salt Lake: Did not play against Jamaica and Panama.

Gyasi Zardes – F – LA Galaxy: Started the game and played for the entire 90 minutes against Jamaica, had 2 shots and committed 2 fouls. Did not play against Panama.

Joe Corona – M – Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz (Mexico): Did not play against Jamaica. Started and played for the entire 120 minutes against Panama, suffering 3 fouls.

Alan Gordon – F – LA Galaxy: Subbed in for Aron Johannsson with 73 minutes on the clock, had 1 shot on target and committed 2 fouls. Did not play against Panama.

Benji Joya – M – Club Nexaca (Mexico): Did not play against Atlante on July 24th in the 2-1 win.

Juan Pablo Ocegueda – D – Alebrijes de Oaxaca (Mexico): Started against Pumas UNAM on July 28th and played for 46 minutes in the win by 2-1.

Marc Pelosi – M – San Jose Earthquakes: Subbed in for Chris Wondolowski with 70 minutes on the clock against Vancouver Whitecaps losing 3-1, committed 1 foul and suffered 2.

Sam Strong – D – UC Santa Barbara: Did not have any games this week.

 

U20 Men’s

Paul Arriola – F – Club Tijuana (Mexico): Subbed in for Alejandro Guido with 62 minute on the clock against Pachuca on July 15th, committed 2 fouls and received 1 yellow card in the loss by 2-1.

Marco Delgado – M – Toronto FC: Started and played for 89 minutes against Columbus Crew in the 3-3 tie, had 1 shot, 1 offside, and suffered 1 foul.

Bradford Jamieson IV – F – LA Galaxy: Started and played the first half against Houston Dynamo losing 3-1, had 1 shot, committed 2 fouls, received a yellow card, and suffered 1 foul.

John Requejo – D – Club Tijuana (Mexico): Started and played the entire game against Pachuca on July 25th and committed 3 fouls in the 2-1 loss.

Tommy Thompson – M – San Jose Earthquakes: Subbed in for Marvel Wynne with 84 minutes on the clock against Vancouver Whitecaps losing 3-1.

Whitney Engen – D – Western New York Flash: Started and played for the entire game against Houston Dash on July 25th, losing 1-0.

Alex Morgan – F – Portland Thorns FC: Did not play against Seattle Reign on July 22nd and 26th in the 1-0 and 3-1 loss.

Shannon Boxx – D – Chicago Red Stars: Announced her retirement from NWSL on July 27th (Did not play any games this week)

Christen Press – F – Chicago Red Stars: Subbed in for Tancredi with 59 minutes on the clock against Boston Breakers on July 22nd and score the winning goal with 90 minutes in the 2-1 win. Started and played the entire game against Washington Spirit on July 25th and scored with 30 minutes in the 1-1 tie.

Megan Rapinoe – M – Seattle Reign FC: Started and played for 81 minute against Portland Thorns in the 1-0 win. Started and played for 71 minutes against Portland Thorns on July 26th in the 3-0 win, assisted in the 3rd goal by Yanez at 50th minute.
