For the past nine years Kim Rex, a Legacy parent with two children on Legacy teams, has been visiting the village of Chachabamba, Peru (a small village in the Andes near Cusco). During Kim’s past visit, they were asking if we would provide them with soccer uniforms for their team.

See even more photos from Kim’s trip

They built a soccer field and the people in Kim’s group played them in a friendly scrimmage, including Kim’s children Parker and Rachel. They villagers also said they would make a sign and name the field Legacy.

To help out the village with the uniforms, there will be a drop off on May 13 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on the sidewalk entrance between fields #2 and #3 and Snedigar.  If you cannot make that, you are more than welcome to drop off the kits at Kim’s house (3655 S. Marion Way, Chandler)

The following is from Kim…

Please consider donating your retired Legacy uniforms/socks/old cleats/bags. The villagers are passionate about soccer and have created a team, and even built a soccer field that they would make a sign naming the field/team ‘Legacy’ in honor of the support from the generous donations received, and with hope that we will deliver  the ‘Legacy’ uniforms on our next mission trip.  **They even had the village president present a signed form regarding their need/request for uniforms (attached) 🙂

This trip was a fantastic experience for our kids… they experience and connected with a different way of life – but still had a common bond – laughter, games, the desire to learn, and soccer!

We met with the coaches of the teams to deliver the items donated by soccerloco; they generously donated 26 shirts, 48 pairs of shorts, 18 sweatshirts,  50 pairs of socks, and 4 soccer balls!

This mission trip to Peru began in 2009 with a goal to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Pichu,  and to serve at a local village – which is how we found Chacabamba, Peru (a small village in the Andes of Peru, near Cusco).  A group of 20 Southwest Airlines Employees went on the 1st mission trip, and fell in love with the people!  As we left, they had tears in their eyes and sprinkled flowers and confetti on each of our heads (with a kiss on the cheek 🙂  pleading that we never forget them…

Each year we provide EVERY child their required school supplies so they can attend school.  We have taught them, and funded, adobe stoves (mud stoves so they can have a safe fire, and heat their homes)for many of the mud huts; we have built several green houses to grow vegetables in their cold climate at 14,000’, we have built cuy barns (guinea pig barns) – cuy is their primary source of protein; and we also deliver clothing, coats, blankets, and treats each year.

Please feel free to contact me with questions, or make arrangements for me to pick up items.
