U.S. Women’s National Team Will Face Republic of Ireland at Qualcomm Stadium

The U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) is one step closer to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio following a 10-0 win over Puerto Rico in the final group match in CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying on Monday.

The USWNT has advanced to the semifinals and will face the runner-up from Group B. Those matches will be played tonight in Houston. The two winning teams from the semifinals will automatically qualify for the Olympic Games.

The USWNT, as expected, dominated group play winning all three matches and scoring 16 goals while holding Mexico, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico scoreless.

Against Puerto Rico, Washington Spirit forward Crystal Dunn scored five goals while Carli Lloyd, Kelly O’Hara, Christian Press, and Sam Mewis each added one goal. The 10th goal was an own goal by Puerto Rico.

The semifinals and finals will be held at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston this weekend. The semifinal matches will be played February 19 and the final will be held February 21.
