The U.S. definitely did not get the result they wanted to head to the first World Cup game with confidence. However, it is not the end of the world either. It was not the most exciting game to watch, the pace was slow, South Korea was very compact in their defense and did not leave much space for the Americans, AND the U.S. forwards were not sharp finishing the attempts they did create.

[quote_box_left]”To be honest, it was a boring game,” Wambach said. “There wasn’t really much attack, there wasn’t really much brilliance individually or collectively. I thought [South Korea] did pretty well slowing the game down and playing their game. Obviously we want a different result — we want to win every game. But knowing what’s ahead, knowing we’re on the precipice of something big, I’m not disappointed.”[/quote_box_left]

The U.S. team did have a very busy week heading into this game with all the media and sponsors responsibilities, as well as wanting to avoid injuries at all costs might have cause them to not have played at their best level against South Korea.

Also, the U.S. team likes to play their game fast paced, that is what they are good at and that is when they perform best. Unfortunately they could not do that against South Korea because the Koreans slowed the game down and played their own game.

Now, comparing this game to what they will face in the World Cup, they will most likely not have a team that will play at the pace that South Korea did. Nigeria could possibly play similarly, but Australia and Sweden will definitely be fast-paced tough matches, as they game style resembles the U.S.

With Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan out for this game, it is hard to say how different the U.S. team will perform in the World Cup when these two very important players get back. As of now, the U.S. is not really playing as well as they should be, but if they can improve that throughout the World Cup, they can definitely go far in the competition. They play against Australia on June 8th as their first match of the Cup.
