After the U.S. Women’s National Team won the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Nike announced that the 3-star jersey would be coming soon. Now that they are out, there has been an unexpected demand for men’s jersey during the short time that they were available. This serves to show that the number of men actually supporting the Women’s National Team is growing.
This is not just about the 3 –star jersey but mainly the fact that it is a men’s cut 3–star jersey.
Boomerang Business published an article with a justification for this issue. According to Nike spokesmen KeJuan Wilkins the reason why they don’t offer jerseys with stars in men’s sizes is because it might create confusion and falsely claim that the MNT had won the World Cup, which makes sense.

The problem is that the jersey designs for both the men and women are the exact same, only the fit changes, anda also the fact that the women’s team won 3 World Cups (3 stars) and the men’s never won it (no stars). Nike said that if the MNT and WNT had different jersey designs, they would be okay with selling women’s jersey in men’s cut. But on the other hand, if Nike were to do that, this would go against the “One Nation, One Team” idea.
