While many of her San Diego Surf teammates were in San Diego signing their NLI (National Letters of Intent) to play college soccer, UCLA commit Mia Fishel was in Uruguay opening up the scoring account for US Soccer at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
USA Cruises to 3-0 win at FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup
Fishel slotted home the game’s first goal in the 22nd minute. The goal proved to be the game winner in USA’s 3-0 win over Camaroon. Hawaii Rush’s Sunshine Fontes scored the USA’s next two goals, therefore ensuring the win for USA.
Fishel is a member of San Diego Surf’s USSDA 2000/2001 team coached by Mark Spooner.
Spooner says of Mia, “Everyone in the club is so proud of what Mia has achieved. Her work ethic is amazing, and she always remains humble. She shows up to practice and continues to work hard. Watching the game today on the TV, I wasn’t surprised by the goal, but it was a bit surreal to see. She’s a super kid.”
