The U.S. Paralympic National Team played against Argentina and for the first time in U.S. history, they defeated the Argentinians by a score of 4-1 in the 2015 Cerebral Palsy Football World Championships. With that result, the U.S. finishes it’s campaign in seventh place and automatically qualifies for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

I am proud of the character shown by every player on the field. However, to get to this position in the tournament, it took a full squad effort and without the bench players and the players who have trained with the USPNT throughout the year, this would have not been possible.” [/quote_box_center]

One of the key players in this squad and the one who opened the count of goals in this game against Argentina is David Garza from Chula Vista, California. He scored the first goal in the 30th minute.

Only eight teams will be getting a spot in Rio out of the Cerebral Palsy Championship, and fortunately the U.S. was one of them.

[quote_box_center]“To say I am proud would be an understatement,” Sharp continued. “We have qualified for the Paralympic Games in Rio 2016 and we will enjoy this moment before we reset our focus for the Para American Games in Toronto this coming August.”[/quote_box_center]

The USWNT also sent a message congratulating the team for making it to Rio: http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2015/06/29/13/29/150629-wnt-pnt-congrats-on-2016-rio-qualification
