The SoccerCity San Diego team has earned a reputation for putting on some of the best events around town. Whether it be a watch party, a soccer training session or a river clean up, the people looking to transform the blighted SDCCU Stadium into something special for all of San Diego have continually demonstrated their class and commitment to building community.

Over the next few weeks, SoccerCity will kick into high gear with another round of events spread around town, as the campaign to pass Measure E gets underway in earnest.

First up, on September 8th is the Healthy Family Fest that Super Soccer Stars and SoccerCity have teamed up to run. Super Soccer Stars has a goal to teach soccer skills in a fun, non-competitive, educational environment. Their philosophy is to use soccer to nurture, to build self-confidence, and to develop teamwork in every class. Their specially designed curricula use positive reinforcement and a low child-to-coach ratio to ensure that each child improves at his or her own rate while having endless fun.

Featuring activities and fun for all ages, the Healthy Family Fest will be held at Sycamore Ridge Elementary School from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM. SoccerCity team member Landon Donovan will be in attendance to play some 3v3 soccer on the special Dragon Goal indoor field and sign autographs. Several other community based groups like  The San Diego Guardians, Fit Gym, Fix Body, Eat your Heart Out and the San Diego SeaLions have also committed to attend. There will be several other activities such as arts and crafts, obstacle courses, giveaways, and more!

You can register to attend at the Eventbrite page found here.

“One of the ancillary benefits of being part of the wonderful SoccerCity project is that I’ve had the opportunity to get out around San Diego and meet many of the people who make this America’s Finest City.” said Landon Donovan. “As the crucial November 6th vote quickly approaches, I’m looking forward to meeting as many people as possible to get them excited about making SoccerCity a reality. And have lots of fun along the way!”

A few days after the Healthy Family Fest, SoccerCity takes the party to Little Italy’s Nolita Hall as the United States Men’s National Team takes on eternal rivals Mexico. Doors open at 4:30 and the match kicks off at 5:30 PM PDT. In true SoccerCity fashion, this event is not just a party. This event doubles as a fundraiser for the AMVETS organization. When you register at the Eventbrite, your $5.00 ticket goes directly to American Veterans,  a non-partisan, volunteer-led organization formed by World War II veterans of the United States military. The organization advocates for its members as well as for causes that its members deem helpful to the nation at large.

Closing out September, SoccerCity is hosting a College Education informational session. Geared towards student athletes, World Cup winner and SoccerCity teammate Shannon Mac Millan will take the stage to share her journey from being a local Escondido youth soccer player, to being recruited to play collegiately to eventually becoming a regular fixture in the Women’s National Team that captured the hearts of the national as it won Olympic Gold and World Cup honors.

Located at the Kroc Center at 6845 University Ave, San Diego, CA, this event runs from 6:45PM-8:30PM and is ideal for high school aged boys and girls. Locally based college coaches will also be in attendance to contribute their knowledge of the collegiate recruiting process.
