On April 21st, Dr. Nicole LaVoi Co-Director of the Tucker Center for Research on Girls and Women hosted their the 4th Annual Women Coaches Symposium. The event was also in conjunction with the University of Minnesota and the Alliance of Women’s Coaches. The full-day symposium provided high quality educational programming and professional development. The event was open to coaches of all sports and every level.

The sold out event had 350 women and a handful of male allies joining forces to listen to speakers, connect and grow. The keynote address of conference was World Cup Winning, US Women’s National Team Coach Jill Ellis.

Purpose of the Women Coaches Symposium:

  • To provide high quality educational programming
  • To provide an avenue for networking for women in the coaching profession
  • To build community among female coaches
  • To increase and retain women in the coaching profession

SoccerNation’s Carrie Taylor recently interviewed Dr. LaVoi about the #SHECANCOACH initiative, the lack of media coverage of women’s sports, and the action steps that everyone can take in order to encourage and increase the number of women in sports roles.
