Course Highlights:

  • Fast fairways and few obstacles
  • The only course with lights for night play
  • A laid back atmosphere makes for a fun round

Along with Balboa Park, Mission Bay is the other USFGA course in San Diego. A city owned course located by the bay, it has a casual, laid back vibe, perfect for first time footgolfers and families. It also has lights, which makes it the only course in town to play after dark. And for $10 after 7pm, it’s the best deal in town.

The first hole starts off with a short par 4, and a chance to kick off the round with a birdie. The third hole offers up the first opportunity to get a hole in one with an 80 yard par 3. Holes 5 and 7 also give players a chance to sink the rare ace, if they have the leg for it. Hole 8 is a long par 5, at 158 yards. A good tee shot in the fairway will put you in range for a birdie, but a wayward tee shot to the left will find trouble in the bushes.

The back nine of the golf course hosts the final seven holes of footgolf. Hole 12 is a long par 5 at 174 yards, and the rough off the tee box will shorten most drives. Hole 14 is a tough par 4, not because of the distance (124 yards), but because the hole is positioned atop a hill that causes many a 3-putt.

Hole 16 brings boats into play. A high hooked drive could clear a low fence and up in a boat yard! Hole 17 is a short par 3 the offers a great birdie chance. The round ends with hole 18, which features a tricky pin placement on the left side behind a light pole. A drive too far right may leave you with a difficult approach shot.
