MLS Review

LA Galaxy (4) vs. Houston Dynamo (1) – Watch Highlights
Houston jumped out to the dream start it wanted at home when David Horst scored just 57 seconds into the match when he headed home Alex’s cross from the corner of the box. That dream soon turned into a nightmare for Houston as the Galaxy scored three goals before the end of the first half. The first strike was from Gio Dos Santos in the 4th minute, the second was from Baggio Husidic, and the third was Dos Santos’ second goal when he calmly converted a Steven Gerrard cross. Gyasi Zardes sucked all the life out of Houston just minutes into the second half after scoring his third goal of the season in the 49th minute.

Columbus needed its star players to show up and they did in the Crew’s first victory this season. Ethan Finlay, Kei Kamara, and Justin Meram all found the back of the net. NYCFC’s David Villa scored on either side of the half, but it wasn’t enough as the Crew picked up a much-needed win. Justin Meram was the real star for the Crew as he assisted on Finaly’s goal in the 7th minute and Kamara’s goal in the 49th minute. Finlay repaid Meram by assisting on his goal in the 80th minute.

Colorado (2) vs. New York Red Bulls (1) – Watch Highlights
As if soccer in the Big Apple wasn’t bad enough with NYCFC, the New York Red Bulls have taken it to another level following a 2-1 loss to Colorado. In all fairness, the match was on the road and in the snow. However, the Red Bulls have just one win in seven matches. Good enough for last in the Eastern Conference. For Colorado, they have to be happy with their fourth win in six matches. Newcomer, Jermaine Jones opened up the scoring with his first goal this year in the 21st minute. Dominique Badji scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute. Ronal Zubar had the Red Bulls lone goal.

Portland picked up a much-needed win against San Jose. It was their first victory since the first weekend of the 2016 season. Jack McInerney scored the opening goal in the 52nd minute while Fanendo Adi doubled Portland’s lead in the 65th minute. But of course, Chris Wondolowski showed up and made things interesting with a 91st minute goal. And believe it or not, there was nine minutes of stoppage time at the end of the match. Enough time for Fanendo Adi to add a second goal.

Seattle is getting hot and teams better watch out as the Sounders have picked up 7 points in their past three matches. On Saturday, Chad Marshall scored the opening goal in the 71st minute and rookie Jordan Morris recorded his first professional goal, which was needed as Sebastian Le Toux scored just minutes after.

Orlando (2) vs. New England Revolution (2) – Watch Highlights
In the lone draw from the weekend, New England picked up its fifth draw in seven matches and Orlando picked up a valuable point. Things didn’t get interesting until stoppage time when both teams scored goals. Kevin Molino scored in the 92nd minute and Lee Nguyen converted a penalty in the 96th minute. As always, multiple goals in stoppage time usually mean there are talking points about officiating, but we’ll let you decide. Check out the highlights above.
