The City of Manchester has long been associated with the colors red for United, and grey for the sky. From the tragedy-turned-glory days of Sir Matt Busby, to the iron willed, seemingly immortal reign of Sir Alex Ferguson, the word “Manchester” reflected and resonated rouge.

That word, Manchester, and the city it hearkens to has begun to take on a different meaning in recent years though. Since the oil-rich Abu Dhabi Group took over the lesser known of the two Manchester clubs, the winds of change have been puffing, fanning, blowing, gusting, and are now blasting. Manchester City are undoubtedly a world power in soccer these days, and while it is surely tempting to carry on as if their current position has always belonged to them, the Citizens have not forgotten where they came from and what makes them who they are.

The 2016-17 Third Kit reflects the rapid rise of both Manchester City as a soccer club, and also as a cultural hub of music, style and sport. New manager Pep Guardiola brings with him a sterling resume both as a player and particualarly as a coach of Barcelona and Bayern Munich. New signings John Stones, Leroy Sane, and Ilkay Gundogan reflect a shift in footballing philosophy that is now fast, fluid, and fluent in a variety of formations and tactical arrays.

The vibrant and creative blend of color in the 2016-17 unites a bright palette graphic print of horizontal orange linees atop a violet base. The fade of the lines into stripes is evident toward the bottom of the shirt’s hem. The violet base recalls the club’s historic purple away shirt first worn in 1992, and odes to the club are present in the “CITY” emblazoned into the back collar and “EST. 1894” features on the sleeve cuffs.

The new Manchester City Third Kit will be available from soccerloco.com September 22nd.
