A rampant first half performance helped the Loyal get their best result of the season. The 3-0 victory was just the result Landon Donovan would have wanted as he returned to the stadium where he won four MLS Cup’s with the LA Galaxy first team. The club’s new signings lead the way in the Loyal’s largest margin of victory in their short history.
The scoring started in the first minute as Alejandro Guido found Miguel Berry free behind the Galaxy II defense. Guido was sharp and lively in attack and gave an added dimension in the attacking half. His pass was pinpoint perfect to Berry who opened his scoring account with a fine finish to the far post. The Loyal added to their tally in the 20th minute. Jack Metcalf found Rubio Rubin for a rather simple tap-in as he made a well timed far post run in his first start for the team. It was not surprising to see Metcalf provide the assist as he continues to be a threat down the right hand side of the Loyal attack. With the new look four back system Elijah Martin and Metcalf play a bit deeper but still find good times to get forward and support the wide areas when needed.
Miguel Berry bagged his second goal in the 38th minute as he took possession near the right hand touch line. He then turned and skinned Los Dos center back Jalen Neal to put himself free on goal. There was still a tidy finish needed but managed to slot home from a tight angle. Miguel earned man of the match for his two goals.
The second half was a professional performance as the Loyal prevented quality opportunities for Los Dos to stage a comeback and kept the clean sheet. Galaxy II looked off the pace. This was their third game in eight days. They lacked the possession and offensive cohesion they had in their 1-0 victory at Torero stadium back in July. The Loyal can use this confidence builder as they have a must win match against Orange County SC on Sunday at Torero Stadium. The playoff race turned quickly as Orange County lost 2-1 last night in Sacramento. The match Sunday is massive in the Loyal’s hopes to qualify for the playoffs. It can be seen on the CW with a 7pm kickoff.
