The matchup of these two teams from Los Angeles has proven to be epic viewing every single time they meet. Since LAFC’s arrival a few years ago many have wondered if they could become the best team in LA at the expense of the 5-time champion Galaxy. The Black and Gold, as known to their passionate fan base, showed last night they most definitely are the Kings of SoCal and the team to beat in MLS.

Even without the services of the 2019 MLS MVP Carlos Vela, LAFC were able to put 6 goals past the struggling LA Galaxy. The Galaxy began the match well and even had the lead twice in the first half. But the counterpressing and possession of LAFC saw them be simply too much for the team from Carson. The result of this game will have felt very good to the 3252 as they legitimately claim to be the most faithful and raucous supporters Club in all of MLS. Additionally, if there was any doubt LAFC would be providing a dangerous attack in the absence of Carlos Vela it has been firmly dismissed. They have scored 9 goals in 2 games without him. Vela is not participating in the ‘MLS is Back’ Tournament at the Walt Disney Resort near Orlando due to his wife’s pregnancy.

Diego Rossi earned man of the match with his 4 goals. LAFC dominated their local rivals in shots, shots on target, possession and passing accuracy. The Galaxy needed an own goal and penalty kick to provide their scoring. With the 6-2 final score it leaves questions for the LA Galaxy moving forward. LAFC seems to have picked up where they left off last season as they made their deepest run in the playoffs yet. They disposed of the Galaxy in that playoff run last season and picked up the Supporters Shield with the league’s best regular season record. Showing success recently in the Concacaf Champions League with the elimination of Mexican side Leon adds another feather to their cap.

LAFC were much deserved winners with a dominate performance. Still, I would not plan to miss the next Battle of Los Angeles. It has shown to be the marquee MLS matchup. The pressure will be on LA Galaxy to up their game after yesterday’s thumping.
