The 2016 college season is coming to a close with two California teams just a few victories away from bringing home a national championship.

Starting on the ladies side, #2 USC has been on a roll in the College Cup. In four matches, they have allowed just one goal – against Eastern Washington in the first round – and have scored 5 goals. They have defeated Eastern Washington, Texas A&M (second round), Utah (third round), and #4 Auburn in the quarterfinals. Against Auburn, USC’s red-shirt junior Alex Anthony headed home what would be the game winning goal in the 4th minute. As USC looked to extend their lead, Auburn fought back and USC goalkeeper Sammy Jo Prudhomme was called into action with six saves to preserve the shutout.

USC now faces #2 Georgetown in the College Cup semifinals on Friday at 4:30PM at Avaya Stadium, home of the San Jose Earthquakes.

The Stanford men’s team is just three more victories away from becoming the first team to win back-to-back titles since Indiana did it in 2003 and 2004. Stanford has advanced to the quaterfianls following victories over Pacific 2-0 and #12 Virginia 1-0. In the Virginia match, junior Foster Langsdorf headed home the match winning goals in the second overtime of the match. This is the 14th goal of the season for Langsdorf. Stanford now faces a tough opponent, #4 Louisville who have defeated UCLA and Notre Dame.

The match against Louisville will be held on December 3 in Louisville, Kentucky at 4:00PM.
