In this Homegrown’s section, we will update you and track progress of the professional soccer players from California.

This week the U.S. National Teams had some important games going on. For the USWNT, the U.S. played against Sweden in the Women’s World Cup, then there was a friendly match for USMNT against Germany and the U20 World Cup where the U.S. played Serbia.

 

USMNT – U.S. vs. Germany friendly match on Wednesday, June 10th.

Miguel Ibarra – M – Minnesota United FC: did not play the friendly match but did play his last game for his club team on Saturday and scored a PK in the first half, even though Minnesota still lost 3-2 to Fort Lauderdale Strikers. Ibarra just signed with Liga MX’s Club Leon on Thursday.

Michael Orozco – D – Puebla, Mexico: did not play the game.

Nick Rimando – GK – Real Salt Lake: did not play the game. Nick returned to Salt Lake City after the game against Netherlands, where he played for the MLS against Colorado. Candy Cropper from the U-23 squad filled in for Rimando as the third keeper after the U.S. got third place in the Toulon Tournament.

Bobby Wood – F – Erzgebirge Aue (Germany): Subbed for Zardes with 74’ minutes. Star of the game against Germany, scored the gamer-winner goal for the U.S.

Gyasi Zardes – F – LA Galaxy: started the game and played until 74’ when Bobby Wood got in. Almost scored in the beginning of the second half

 

U20 Men’s: US vs. Serbia for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Quarterfinals on Sunday, June 14th.

Paul Arriola – F – Club Tijuana (Mexico): started the game and played for the entire 90 minutes against Serbia. Participated in the PKs scoring the 2nd goal for the U.S. (third kicker).

Marco Delgado – M – Toronto FC: started the game and played for the entire 90 minutes against Serbia. Participated in the PKs scoring the 5th goal (7th kicker).

Bradford Jamieson IV – F – LA Galaxy: did not play the game.  did not play the game. Bradford suffered an injury in the previous U.S. game against Colombia when he fell awkwardly on his right side in the 11th minute of the match.

John Requejo – D – Club Tijuana (Mexico): started the game and played for the entire 90 minutes against Serbia. The last Kicker in PKs, got his shot saved by Serbian goalkeeper.

Tommy Thompson – M – San Jose Earthquakes: started the game and got subbed by Joel Soñora at 103’.

 

USWNT: FIFA World Cup group phase, US vs. Sweden tied 0-0 on Friday, June 12th.

Shannon Box – D – Chicago Red Stars: did not play the game.

Whitney Engen – D – Western New York Flash: did not play the game.

Alex Morgan – F – Portland Thorns FC: Got in for Sydney Leroux at 78’.

Christen Press – F – Chicago Red Stars: Started the game and got subbed by Abby Wambach at 68’.

Megan Rapinoe – M – Seattle Reign FC: Started and played the entire 90 minutes. Had a good chance of scoring at 64’

Amy Rodriguez – F – FC Kansas City: Made her first appearance in the World Cup when she subbed in for Morgan Brian at 58’.
