Youth Soccer News: Preliminary Play Continues at the 2012 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup
In the second day of preliminary games at the 2012 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup, the Under-14 through Under-17 Boys and Girls teams were looking to move one step closer to competing in the championship games at the Cherry Island Soccer Complex in Sacramento, Calif.
Recaps from Friday’s Games:
Under-14 Boys
Georgia Mountain YMCA (GA) was the first team to secure a spot in the National Presidents Cup final as they beat Elkhart Flames Dynamite (IN), 2-0. A pair of goals by Bryant Anaya led Georgia Mountain. Metuchen Rover Juniors (NJ) bounced back from a day one defeat with a 3-0 victory over River City Soccer Club (WA). Jake Longo stole the show with a hat trick for Metuchen.
Under-14 Girls
NC Boca (CA-S) earned its first win of the week with a 2-1 result over LVU United (E-PA). With all the scoring in the second half, Taylor Asciak struck first for NC Boca in the 46th minute. Paige Jones would level for LVU in the 59thbefore Ashley Jones regained the lead for NC Boca in the 65th. JASA Coastal Surge (NC) also notched its first win today as they beat St. Louis Scott Gallagher (MO) 1-0. Tylor Ring’s first-half goal was the difference on the day and launched JASA to the top of the pool.

Rage Gunners (E-PA) notched its second win in as many days with a 2-1 victory over FC Golden State (CA-S). Kristian Nunez gave FC Golden State an early lead, but late goals by Jacob Bissell and Jason Burns completed the Rage Gunners comeback and secured a spot in the championship game. The group’s other game was full of excitement as Kansas City SC Gold (KS) and TUFC Los Guerreros (S-TX) played to a 4-3 scoreline. With the scored tied at one entering the second half, Kansas City scored three goals in 20 minutes to claim a 4-1 lead. TUFC showed resilience and pulled two goals back in the final 10 minutes, but it wasn’t enough as Kansas City earned the win.
Under-15 Girls
McKenna Moore led the way for Colorado United White (CO) with a hat trick as they beat FPYC Wildcats Blue (VA), 4-2. Moore starting the scoring early with two goals in the first 10 minutes. Rebekah Haysley extended the Colorado lead with a goal in the 16th, but FPYC answered just a minute later with a strike by Madeline Waizenegger. Moore completed her treble before the halftime whistle. Olivia Ganet would score in the final moments of the game for FPYC. In a rematch of the Region III Presidents Cup final, Dallas Texans 97 (N-TX) and GUSA Navy (NC) played to a 1-1 draw. Macy Golman opened the scoring in the 20th minute for Dallas Texans, and Eynde Frazier equalized for GUSA in the 68th.
Under-16 Boys
United Strikers (N-TX) claimed an early lead over FC Porto of Kansas (KS) on a goal by Angel Herrera. Less than 10 minutes later, Spencer Jones leveled for FC Porto. Justin Harris put United Strikers up for good with a strike in the 61st minute. The group remains open for the taking as LA Premier FC Black (CA-S) and Crusaders United (MA) played to a 1-1 draw. For the second day in a row, Crusaders scored an early goal, this time by Steven Lanata. But for the second day in a row, Crusaders would relinquish the lead as Nikolas Dopke scored in the 66th to bring LA Premier back level.
Under-16 Girls
Platinum FC Cleary (CA-S) bounced back from a loss on day one to beat Capital United Blue Fusion (E-NY) Friday 4-3. The back and forth game was scoreless for nearly the whole first half, until Stacie Moran found the net for Platinum FC. Capital United would rattle off three goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half to claim the lead, but two more goals by Moran and one by Peyton Nocciolo secured the Platinum FC victory. After a scoreless first half in the group’s other game, Central FC Select Strikers (WI) and Houston Express (S-TX) each found the net once to draw 1-1 on Friday. Houston Express is now in the driver’s seat with four points going into the final day of preliminary play.
Under-17 Boys
Brasil Coachella (CA-S) continued its scoring ways with a 3-0 victory over FC Frederick 94 Royal (MD). A first half treble by Hector Osuna led Brasil Coachella and secured a spot in the title game. After falling behind 2-0 to Texas United Westside (S-TX), Indiana Invaders Black (IN) came back to earn a 2-2 draw.
Under-17 Girls
Crusaders (MA) earned a place in the championship game with a 2-1 win Friday over Arsenal Colorado Royal (CO). An Alex Klema goal gave Arsenal a 1-0 halftime lead, but second-half goals by Fran Lapsley and Madison Finlay gave Crusaders the win. Libertyville Premier Orange (IL) and Miami Lakes (FL) both entered their game Friday needing a result to stay alive for a championship berth. Heidi Vanderbloomer stuck first for Libertyville in the 8thminute, before a double by Sharon Tejada gave Miami Lakes a 2-1 lead at half. Two more Tejada strikes and an insurance goal by Samantha Marsh gave Libertyville the 4-2 win.
The final day of preliminary play begins at 8:00 a.m. Saturday to determine which teams will compete for the title of 2012 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup Champion.
The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup is designed for those teams seeking additional challenges to play against teams of similar abilities for a national title. The cup provides a progressive, competitive experience to teams that might not otherwise get the opportunity to participate in a series of unique experiences highlighting competition, camaraderie and community from the state to regional to national levels of US Youth Soccer.
