Coach Darren Parker's BU17 celebrates being Finalists in Cerritos Memorial Day tournament.

The team enjoyed their last victory as a Del Mar Sharks team and some of the team even started to put on their new CV Manchester jerseys!

The team which was Del Mar Sharks for the competition and ranks 55 in the nation, is now Carmel Valley Manchester and will compete in the Premier elite bracket next season.

The team is very highly ranked across the country.  The BU17 team hold the position of 23rd in the region and 15th in Southern California.

SN spoke with the team's captain, Gaby Lopez, who is graduating this year and will be attending Wooster College on a scholarship.  Lopez said "Our team is excited to move with our coach to our new club and take advantage of all CV Manchester has to offer."      More on the team's club switch this week on SN.

The Nott's Forest Memorial Day Tournament was a lot of fun for many teams.  David Banks, Tournament Director told SN it was a very successful and busy weekend.

John Napier says "The new BU11 team played together for the first time this weekend, we did pretty good, got to the Final in the U11 bracket, but got beat by the State Champions (SD Aztecs). We had earlier tied Aztecs 1-1 in pool play."

Napier continues "We are still getting to know each other, so it is looking good so far."

Napier also had another team in the Nott's tournament.  "My other team in the tournament FC San Diego BU10 played up at 11v11 in their silver bracket and we won that also, so overall a good weekend, both teams together played (8) games with overall 5 wins, 2 ties, and one final loss.   It was a long weekend but pleased with both teams."

CV Manchester also took home several trophies:
"Congratulations to Coach Gary Condliffe and his soon to be BU10 team on their great success, the boys were awesome and played great soccer in achieving their victories.  A truly great start for this "new" team, with many new faces and some new positions for some boys.Great confidence booster for all concerned," says Billy Garton, fromer Manchester United defender and co-founder of CV Manchester Soccer Club.

Garton continued to praise the tournament and report on "Other CV Manchestersuccesses included Gus Del Medico's GU 14 team, winning the tournament in their respective bracket, well done to Gus and his very dedicated girls team.  My own soon to be BU8 team also won in the current BU7 bracket, fighting off San Diego Surf,Carmel Valley SharksLa Jolla Impact, and Poway, to claim the winners medal and trophy.  I am very proud of my little guys, they worked especially hard in the last game with no subs for a long time, in really hot conditions."

La Jolla Impact, PQ Premier, Aztecs FC, Nott's Forest and CV Manchestercompeted in the BU9 Gold bracket.

Coach Jeff Illingworth, co-founder of CV Manchester says that "My team played up and had a great experience.   The competition was tough, especially the La Jolla Impact team.   I do not always recommend playing up for a team, especially not in a tough tournament like Surf Cup, but it can be a very valuable in determining where a team needs to work harder.  My soon to be BU9 team benefited, and we came away feeling that we had a great weekend and a very valuable experience."

La Jolla IMPACT BU9 Blue won the BU9 GOLD Bracket.  The boys overcame illness, missing players due to baseball conflicts, and a coach who was voiceless by the final game.

Due to baseball playoffs, IMPACT used 3 goalkeepers over the 4 games – Alexander Steigerwald, Mitch Morrison, and Cesar Canton did fabulous jobs!  The defense (Trevor Sebring in center, Axel Youngdale on left, and Daniel Massaad on right) kept many shots from being taken, keeping one game completely scoreless, racking up another shutout for the team.

According to Team Manager  Kristen Sebring, "The offense did a stellar job (Tyler Makwana in center, Luca Hofmeister on left, Evan Lewis on right).  Derek Bragado was solid as usual in mid-field, and Donovan Todorov did a great job coming in to spell the offensive starters, continuing his streak of being in the perfect position at the right time, and putting pressure on the other teams goalkeeper.  Tyler Shapiro got to experience playing at nearly all the positions this tournament.   What a great way to welcome the  team's  two new players this season – Tyler Shapiro and Cesar Canton!

San Diego Surf Soccer Club won the BU8 bracket and the team was thrilled.  Coach Dave Currie lead his new, soon to be BU9 team to victory and was very proud of how hard the boys worked.  Surf Coach Mario Mrakovic is a parent on this team and was thrilled to see his son Luka Mrakovic play so well and help his team to victory.

Surf BU9 Team playing on artificial turf at the Poway Country Shootout. Eitan Breziner passes to Michael Scavuzzo as Derek Stephenson keeps an eye on defense
Brandon Kelley, Director of Coaching, says "The Poway Country Shootout Tournament is the biggest fundraiser for the Poway soccer league and in its 14th year.  We have more than 110 teams and are very pleased to be able to play this tournament in Poway -- for a while, we had to take the competition elsewhere because of poor quality soccer fields but now we are happy to be back."

San Diego Surf Soccer Club's BU8 soon to be BU9s played up in the BU10 bracket against the Aztecs, Vaqueros, and Albion.  While the team enjoyed one sweet 6-1 victory against the Vaqueros, the team also experienced the sting of defeat.   As Jeff Inglingworth says "It is important to play tough teams and not to always have easy wins."

Surf Coach Danny Salas was proud.  The BU8 team showed good sportsmanship on the field as they congratulated Albion for their 7-0 win against  Surf on Sunday morning.   Diane Scavuzzo says "We are all proud of our boys.  They won one game and lost two.  The next tournament is Soccer in the Sand next weekend and then they boys get a break for a few weeks."

The new field in Poway:   "The new artificial turf field looked beautiful when we arrived, but as the day became hotter, the heat rising from the field became intense," says Scavuzzo.

The Memorial Day Tournaments were great and enjoyed by hundreds of teams throughout Southern California.  Congratulations to all the teams who played in Memorial Day Tournaments.
