Pro Soccer News: NPSL Tiburones United Futbol Club First Gala
NPSL's newest expansion team in San Diego holds first ever gala in North County and successfully raises awareness of the world's most popular sport; soccer.
The Tiburones' Gala held on Saturday, May 28th was a great success for the club and San Diego's North County soccer. Held at the Vista Civic Center, in Vista California, more than 225 people attended the first ever Tiburones gala. Martin Torres, President/CEO of the Tiburones United Futbol Club (TUFC) says, “The Tiburones' first gala night was a tremendous success. The love north county showed us was tremendous."
The Tiburones United Futbol Club announced they are partnering up with a company called * FRE3KICK * for a new line of soccer clothing and are launching an official FRE3KICK & TUFC collection with various designs that will include the soccer club's logo. The T Shirts, which will be available soon, will be offered in bright red, green or blue.
The TUFC also announced a new is partnership with the Major League Soccer (MLS) team, Chivas USA.
"Chivas USA will be helping us by promoting our team in the LA area, and we will be doing the same in North County. We will also be conducting Chivas USA tryouts here in our area and give our young adults at a shot at the MLS," says Matin Torres.
The Tiburones also unveiled their 2011 NPSL pre season jersey.
Martin told SN that they were expecting 100-150 and by the end of the night more than 230 fans and supporters had attended the gala.
The guests ranged from soccer players to local businesses, including the General Manager from Denny’s and the owners of Primo’s Market. Guests flew in from San Francisco to attend.
"People here in North County are super excited about Tiburones. Thank you all that supported this event, and big thanks to all our sponsors and Soccer Nation for their presence. Stay tuned because we are about to change soccer for good in our community," says Torres.
The evening was filled with music, laughter and a celebration of soccer. The gala's raffle included 4 tickets to the Chivas USA game vs Houston Dynamo.
"My goal for last night was for people to feel my passion, to feel that I'm not here to compete for business, I'm not here for anything else but to make sure these young soccer players have a better future, to give them that one moment they will remember for ever. Last night was all about the players. I can’t tell you how much I love this sport. We succeeded last night, people felt it, heard it, and went home with it, what they felt last night, is what I feel every day, this is my life, and I want to share it. Soccer is my passion," says Torres.
Tiburones United Football Club announced in January, 2011 they had joined the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) for the 2012 season. TUFC will be North County San Diego’s firstand only Men’s Professional Soccer team, which will represents local talent and is planning to play its home games in Oceanside, California.
The Torres brothers under the name Tiburones Rojos De Veracruz founded TUFC in 1986. The Tiburones have won over 10 titles in various divisions and leagues within the highly competitive San Diego amateur circuit. Several players from previous squads (1986-2008) were offered pro contracts in Mexico, and in one year TUFC has already had 2 players discovered by U.S. based professional soccer teams.
“Our vision is to educate young players on what it takes to become a pro soccer player and to give them the opportunity of a lifetime. We are very happy about being announced as the newest expansion franchise of the National Premier Soccer League for 2012”, says Torres.
NPSL also has two other soccer teams, the San Diego Boca FC and SD Flash, in the San Diego area.
