San Diego Soccer News: SAN DIEGO SURF GU9-PREMIER WINS ENCINITAS ROTARY CUP

The Surf GU9-Premier, coached by Steveo Leacock, finished as Championsin the 2010 Encinitas Rotary Cup. 

The girls played four amazing SHUTOUT games of dominating and electrifying soccer! It is unusual, in any tournament, to have several shutout games, let alone four shutouts!

Goalie:  Sierra Shebest and Center Defender: Hanna Karl along with Defenders: Haley Mossmer, Scarlett Williams, Emma Herrera proved to be an iron-clad curtain.

Game 1-Surf vs. Oceanside Breakers:  5-0 Goals scored by Hanna Karl(3), Ava Matthews, Lindsay Groves, great assist by Sara Stone.

Game 2-Surf vs. Encinitas Express: 6-0 Goals scored by Ava Matthews, Erin Mohr, Ava D’Arcangelo, Lindsay Groves, Hanna Karl(2).  Crucial assists by Sara Stone and Haley Mossmer.

Game 3-Surf vs. Del Mar Sharks: 4-0 Goals scored by Benny Vasconcelos, Sierra Shebest, Hanna Karl, Ava Matthews.  Assist by Ava M.

FINALS - Surf vs. Carlsbad Wave: 3-0 Goals scored by Malia Douglas, Ava D’Arcangelo, Hanna Karl

This Championship victory was truly a team effort, each teammate made significant contributions.  Forwards: Kylie Stirling, Ava Matthews, Ava D’Arcangelo, Lindsay Groves, Erin Mohr.  Midfielders: Sara Stone, Benny Vasconcelos, Malia Douglas.  Defense:  Hanna Karl, Haley Mossmer, Scarlett Williams, Emma Herrera, Sierra Shebest (GK)

Center Defender/Sweeper, Hanna Karl, received Coach Steveo’s “Tournament MVP” with shutout defense and 7 goals (5 free kicks).
