Youth Soccer News: Grass Roots Soccer Program Develops Youth Soccer Champions

Coached by Grass Roots Program Director Mario Mrakovic, San Diego Surf Girls U7 White team won the Encinitas Rotary Cup; their first ever 8 vs. 8 Tournament playing up in an U8 bracket against girls a year older.

In the preliminary round, the girls beat the U8 Encinitas Express team 2-1 with both goals scored by Demia Savage. The GU7 Surf team followed with a 4-0 win over the U7 Encinitas Express team (goals by Eva Thomsen, Brooke Bubnis, Anya Van Den Einde, and Nadira Haddach), and a 2-1 win against the U8 Fallbrook Villa team (goals by Demia Savage and Sevrin Kaese).

In the soccer tournament finals, the Surf team played the U8 Encinitas Express team once again, winning by a score of 5-0.

Kira Carney scored a hat trick, and the other two goals were scored by Alexis McCorkle and Nadira Haddach. Goalie Audrey Glynn recorded the shutout in the final match.

Coach Mrakovic was ecstatic with the win saying "The girls did well today and won the finals in a very convincing fashion. This group of U7’s is a scary bunch. I am proud of all the players and thank the parents for all their help."
