Surf GU14 White team
Youth Soccer Spotlight: San Diego Surf GU14
New 2010 Season Starts On The Right Foot
The San Diego Surf GU14 White team has passion, commitment to excellence and the dedication required to be soccer champions.
After a tough National Cup and Regional Competition, the Surf GU14 White girls continue to demonstrate the hearts of Champions. The team headed to Albuquerque earlier this summer in June and after a lot of hard work to develop a cohesive unit style of soccer. They returned to San Diego with another Championship. This team had to persevere the wind storms, extreme dry heat, high altitude and thick grassy pitch without compromising their style of play. In the final, the team looked sharp and rested due to out possessing their opponents in every game.
The final in Regional competition was played against a Hawaiian team that enjoyed hundreds of cheering fans cheering on their sidelines. Regardless of the overwhelming cheering, in the end, the Surf team won after a fierce penalty shoot out.
In a quick transitional time, the Hawaiian team was Surf's first opponent in Surf Cup in San Diego. With a mission to continue their spirit of great competitors, the GU14 White team didn't skip a beat, beating great opponents like Hawaii, So Cal Blues and cross town rivals Manchester United to lose in the final of Surf Cup to Dallas Sting. Again, the Surf team created many opportunities and controlled the possession of the ball but Sting had one shot that found the net, getting through the Surf defenses.
Recently, while playing for an opportunity to represent California South once again, as a returning Regional Champ, Surf GU14 team completed in their first leg of the Far West Regional League Competition. They came away with 3 victories while scoring 10 goals and only allowing 3. They now prepare to round up the rest of the league competition in two weekends.
Coach Jose Ocampo says "The team is a prime example of what patience, dedication, and hard work can accomplish. They are a group of young ladies who really enjoy playing the game and showcasing their talent, that didn't come easy the first couple of years but now seem to be heading in the right direction. If the brazilian slogan "joga bonita" play beautifully, is what soccer is supposed to be about, this team executes and commits itself to the style. "
