Surf GU12 had beat West Coast FC 2-1 in overtime in the Semi Finals and before that So Cal Infinity '98 1-0 in the Quarter Finals and Laguna Hills Eclipse White in the Round of 16.
Coach O'Campo says, " This season our main objectives were to win: Surf Cup, National Cup and Regionals. We were not able to beat the Rays in the final of Surf Cup but today we can cross off 1 of the goals we set. Today's victory is a wonderful conclusion to our National Cup run. The conditions were not the best by any means but then again it was the same playing conditions for both teams. We had a great start in the 1st half, with the majority of the possession favoring us but we lacked that final pass in the final third of the field. We still managed to create several goal scoring opportunities but we just did not finish any of them in the 1st half."
"The second half was a little more contested. We were fortunate to score a goal early in the 2nd half and a second goal mid way into the 2nd half as well. After the 2nd goal, the Eagles pressed us and made it really difficult for us to get into a rhythm and retain possession of the ball. They scored late in the 2nd half and I think it woke my team up. We picked up our work rate once again and the final result was favorable to us," says O'Campo.
Coach O'Campo says, "I told the girls that this was a great feeling right now, one that should be remembered, but we are still on a journey to achieve our main objective. The main objective this season was to win a National Cup and also a Regional title. We took one step forward today in achieving that goal and hopefully the conditions are right in Idaho so that we can display some of our best soccer."
