STORM GU14 continues their pre-season success by winning the Nike Crusaders Cup Championship. The Nike Crusaders Cup was held in San Diego on July 17-19 and was produced by Soccer Tournament Specialists (STS).

STORM GU14 not only won the Championship title, but did so while playing against up an age group against higher level teams in the GU15 age bracket. All the teams were tough competitors at the tournament, as shown by the game stats: 4 tie games, where the semi-final and final games ended in PK shoot-outs.

STORM GU14’s first game was a 0-0 tie against FC San Diego Gold. The next match, Game 2, STORM GU14 played against FCMG Gold, also to a 0-0 tie.

The semi-final game against the Del Mar Sharks GU15 was an exciting game of back and forth, but still neither team could hit net and score which led to a penalty kick shoot-out. With amazing shots by the 5 selected STORM GU14 players and incredible saves by goalie, Jenna Carpenter; STORM GU14 won the PK shoot-out (4-3), taking STORM to the Finals.

In the final game, STORM GU14 faced an earlier tournament competitor, FC San Diego Gold, for the Championship. An early 1st half goal by FC San Diego did not keep STORM out of the fight for the trophy. Before the half ended, STORM had come back strong and scored with a superb goal by Kileigh Phillips, assisted by Marissa Medici. At the end of regulation game play and both teams battling hard, the score remained tied at 1-1. After double overtime, the teams still held the game to a tie. Once again STORM GU14 faced a PK shoot-out. Bringing all they had to their game and with amazing saves by goalie Jenna Carpenter, STORM GU14 won the CHAMPIONSHIP in a 5-4 (six shooters) victory.

Congratulations to the STORM GU14 team for playing up and becoming Champions of the Crusaders Cup.
