Youth Soccer News: SDSC - PQ Premier Boys U17 Win 2011 US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup
PQ Premier returns to San Diego with the title of President's Cup Regional BU17 Champions. The team, which is officially the San Diego Soccer Club BU17, scored a record 17 goals and gave up only 5 goals to their opponents. The SDSC team was coached by Matt Hall in their coach Seamus McFadden's absence. This SDSC Premier advances to play in the President's Cup Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa, July 7 – 10th.
After 11 hours of driving, the SDSC BU17 team and their families found themselves surrounded by snow capped mountains in Salt Lake City, Utah. These boys came to play and each player contributed to the success from countless saves by the defense and goalie to 9 of 16 players scoring! Here is the game by game report:

Game 1 vs Utah’s TC United ( 5-0 Win)
Started slowly with only a 1-0 lead off Sean Fowler’s header going into half. Coach, Matt Hall, pumped the boys up and they came back for the second half scoring 4 more goals (Eddie Irvine, Andrew Ccapatinta, Todd Minerva and Chris Kusunoki) ending the game 5 to 0.
Game 2 vs Washington’s Eastside Football Club (2-1 Loss)
The second game resulted in a heartbreaking loss to the Washington’s Eastside Football Club. PQ Premier had the lead going into the final five minutes of the 2nd half and ending up giving 2 goals to lose the game.
Game 3 vs Idaho Thunder (4-2 Win)
The boys rallied together to defeat Idaho Thunder in their final game of bracket play. Goals scored - Eddie Irvine (2), Ryan Camara (1), Torrey DeArmas (1).
Quarterfinal vs Arizona TSA 94 Blue (2-1 Win)
PQ Premier won their bracket and move into the quarterfinals against Arizona TSA 94 Blue. Torrey DeArmas and Sean Horan each score to advance PQ Premier to the Semifinals.
Semifinal vs Arizona USA 94 (3-1 Win)
PQ Premier matched up against another Arizona team with James Haley scoring the equalizer to tie the the game at 1-1. Sean Horan and Ryan Camara each put the ball in the net to finish with a 3-1 win!
Final vs Nevada's Pumas United Revolution (2-1 OT Win)
Sunday morning, the team and families woke up to a steady rain. Everyone packed up, and headed to the field to play the final match against Nevada’s, undefeated, Pumas United Revolution. Pumas got an early 1-0 lead. Ryan Camara was fouled in the box and scored a PK to tie the game. Lightning was on the horizon but miles away, the game goes into overtime. Torrey DeArmas steps up, shoots and scores giving PQ Premier a 2-1 advantage. Overtime clock still ticking…1 minute 29 seconds left...lightning is within striking distance and the officials suspend game and evacuate the field. Huddled under the protected area, no one is sure if the game is over until the officials announce PQ Premier wins. Cheering erupted, medals were passed out then everyone sprinted back to cars for the long drive back to San Diego. It was an exciting finish for the PQ Premier Boys U17 team.
