Youth Soccer News: San Diego Soccer Club BU11 Academy Earn SD Premier Classic Championship

SD Soccer Club BU11 Academy team competed this past weekend in the Gold bracket of the SD Premier Classic and brought home the championship trophy in a tight final which ended 2-1.

The 18th Annual San Diego Premier Classic was held August 11-12, 2012. The San Diego Soccer Club's summer youth soccer tournament was held in Rancho Penasquitos and offered both Gold and Silver brackets to allow all levels of play to experience the best of competition.

Battling the high temperatures as well as their opponents, SDSC BU11 team coached by Brian Quinn opened the tournament with a 1-0 win over San Diego Surf BU11 Premier team.

Later on Saturday the team faced a tough Aztecs team that they have played before. A tough match ensued and the Aztec's prevailed 3-2. SDSC had to come out on Sunday and fight back to advance to the final. The SDSC team did just that with a hard fought win over Albion 1-0.

The final was a rematch of the Saturday afternoon's game. SDSC versus Aztecs and the Aztecs  led in total points for the tournament.

It was a very close match with SDSC taking the lead early 1-0. The Aztecs tied it up in the beginning of the second half but SDSC pulled out the win with a goal late in the second half. The boys are headed to Orange County for NHB Cup over Labor Day weekend and are looking forward to another challenge on the soccer field!

Coach Brian Quinn is a retired Irish-American soccer player. Quinn played in the North American Soccer League (NASL) and Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) and coached in the Continental Indoor Soccer League and Major League Soccer. He is a well known figure in the local San Diego soccer scene as he played numerous seasons for the championship San Diego Sockers.
