Coach Darren Parker's Carmel Valley Manchester BU18 team scrimmaged the San Diego Sockers and provided excellent competition for the professional men's soccer team. It was an action packed and exciting game. Well known San Diego Socker player Paul Wright says "It was a great game."
CV Manchester team worked 'as a team' and both defense and offense were excellent. At half time the score was 0-0.
San Diego Sockers' Chiky Luna says "It was a fun game and always fun playing against the kids in San Diego. They are a good team, it is good to see how far soccer in San Diego is coming along, kids are getting better and better. This is a good way for us to get the Sockers name out in the community and let everyone know that this is San Diego's team. We are available to the community and always interested in meeting and talking to the fans."
According to Coach Parker "I thought my boys played very well against the San Diego Sockers. The first half we played a good defensive game with some luck as well, to keep the Sockers from scoring and only allowed 2 goals in the second half. It was great experience for us going into our first academy game and we are very grateful to the Sockers for allowing us the opportunity to train against them during their off season."
Played at Ashley Falls, the match was action packed with many attempts at goal. The CV Manchester goalie Webb performed incredibly well, making save after save and preventing the Sockers from scoring. The BU18 team were clearly enjoying playing with the pros and were honored to participate in the scrimmage. It was a great learning experince for the BU18 players and a fabulous idea of Coach Parker's.
Parker's BU18 team will play the San Diego soccer professionals again. CV Manchester BU18 will play the Sockers again and has games scheduled with San Diego Flash and San Diego Boca FC soccer teams as well.
