Indoor Soccer News: San Diego Sockers Re-Sign Brian Farber to One-Year Deal

First team all-PASL midfielder, former league MVP is back for third season in SD

The San Diego Sockers will have their fleet-footed firebrand back on the field in 2012-13, as the team today announced the signing of all-PASL midfielder Brian Farber to a one-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed as per team policy.

“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” said Farber of his return to the Sockers, “This is the best team to play for and the organization is top notch all the way. I’m looking forward to an awesome and hopefully a record-breaking season.”

Farber, 30, is in his third season with the Sockers and has been part of the PASL since the league’s inception in 2008-09. A veteran of the MISL and multiple pro outdoor leagues, Farber is the PASL’s all-time points leader, with 96 goals and 58 assists (154 points) in 51 games. Last season Brian finished fourth in the PASL in scoring with 27 goals and 17 assists (44 points), playing in all sixteen regular season games.

“We couldn’t be happier to be bringing back the league’s fastest and most exciting player in Brian Farber,” said Sockers general manager John Kentera, “Brian is an unmatched competitor and his skill set cannot be duplicated or replaced.”

Farber was an all Pac-10 performer during his college days at Oregon State and has played professional outdoor soccer the past two summers in the NASL with Carolina and Los Angeles. The PASL MVP with Stockton in 2008-09, Farber has played in 20 regular season games with the Sockers, netting 57 points (33 goals, 24 assists).

Faber will team up with returning Sockers’ star Paul Wright and defender Antonio Sutton, who also signed one-year contracts. Wright rejoins the Sockers after one season with the Anaheim Bolts. Sutton, who previously played for the California Cougars, joined San Diego during the run to the 2011-2012 PASL Championship. The three hope to help the team break the all-time U.S. professional sports team win streak.

The Sockers open the 2012-2013 season on Saturday, November 3, at 7:05 p.m. when they host the Sacramento Surge at the Valley View Casino Center (formerly the San Diego Sports Arena). Tickets, including season and single-game tickets, are available by calling 866-799-GOAL, or by visiting www.sdsockers.com.
