Indoor Soccer News: San Diego Sockers Announce Fourth Annual Open Tryouts

September 15 Tryouts Set for Sportsplex USA in Poway

The thirteen-time indoor champion San Diego Sockers will hold an open tryout camp on Saturday, September 15th at the Sportsplex USA in Poway, led by Sockers head coach Phil Salvagio. Participants will have the opportunity to train in front of the Sockers coaches, learn from the staff and ultimately try to earn a place on the Sockers Reserves.

Sign-ups will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the tryouts starting promptly at 2:00 p.m. and continuing until 5:00 p.m. There is a participation fee of $35, payable prior to the camp by credit card. On the day of camp, the participation fee will be $40 and accepted in cash only. Registrants should call 760-795-0024 to sign up, or they can e-mail Melissa@sdsockers.com to reserve a space at the tryout camp. Ages 18 and up will be accepted.

“We are fortunate to live in San Diego where there are so many talented soccer players,” said Sockers’ general manager John Kentera, “It is our organizational philosophy to build from within and always maintain the depth necessary to continue our championship tradition. The Sockers Reserves are a key part of our franchise and many of their players wind up suiting up for the Sockers at some point. This camp is a chance for a player to get noticed and launch his career.”

The Sockers Reserves play in the PASL-Premier division, with regional divisional opponents and an opportunity to compete for a national championship. The San Diego Sockers play in the upper-division of the PASL, where they have won 37 consecutive matches and three straight league championships.

“We have had players come through our tryout camp and make their way onto the team,” said head coach Phil Salvagio, who noted the signing of Jason Santos last year, a player who rose from tryouts to Sockers Reserve to spot starts with the Sockers, “If you think you’re good enough to help the Sockers win another title, come out on September 15th and let us see your game.”
