Spotlight on Chiles:
The Sockers’ top scorer and PASL MVP, Kraig Chiles returned to the SD Sockers for a third season as the focus of the Sockers’ offensive attack. Chiles built off his stellar campaign in 2009-2010, leading the PASL in goals (38) while finishing second in points (50). Chiles was named MVP prior to the team’s participation in the 2011 PASL-Pro North American Championships and quickly proved why he deserved the honor, coming up clutch in each of the Sockers’ postseason battles. Chiles had a goal in the Sockers’ 7-3 semifinal win over Mexico City and four goals in San Diego’s championship clinching 10-6 win over Guadalajara, including a pair of power play tallies. In the Sockers’ 13-6 U.S. Open Cup victory over Cincinnati Chiles delighted the home fans at the Del Mar Arena with four goals and an assist.
A graduate of Poway High, Chiles, 27, starred at San Diego State University. As an Aztec he started 59 straight games and tallied 22 goals in three seasons from 2006-2008. Kraig was a first-team All Pac-10 honoree his senior season, and upon graduation in 2008, was selected with the 9th overall pick in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Expansion Draft by Chivas USA. Chiles played five MLS games with Chivas, including two starts and one assist. Chiles’ success with the Sockers has led to selection at the national level.
Kraig was selected as a starting forward for the U.S. Futsal National Team’s tour of Brazil in October, scoring four goals in a game against Belgium. Chiles was also the starting forward for the U.S. National Arena Soccer Team and scored two goals in a 7-5 win over Mexico to clinch the 2011 International Cup. Chiles is a player dedicated to the game of soccer and passionate about his efforts in and off the arena. A true role model, Chiles worked hard to gain the training and experience and takes great pleasure in speaking with fans and young players.
San Diego Sockers travel to Tacoma for games next Saturday and Sunday.
