San Diego Soccer Enthusiasts lead the Country in watching World Cup on TV
The sound of the World Cup has come to sunny San Diego.

The U.S.’ controversial 2-2 World Cup tie with Slovenia, the match in which the referee disallowed a goal and did not explain his reason, was watched by more soccer-happy households than any other soccer match on ESPN’s. 4 millions viewers from all across America watched as their county overcame a score of 2-0 at halftime to earn a 2-2 draw and San Diego was the top market, delivering an 8.5 rating – truly amazing when considering the 7 am start time on the West Coast. San Diego soccer enthusiasts led the nation with Washington, DC, Miami, West Palm Beach, and San Francisco also making the top 5 markets.

San Diego was also the top market for the USA/England game on ABC on June 12, 2010 with the largest rating of 11.5. More than 13 million people viewed the game, making this World Cup opener the most-watched in U.S. broadcast history.

The U.S. vs Slovenia match also set records for ESPN3.com and ESPNRadio.com. ESPN3.com had 798,911 unique viewers with an average time of 47 minutes. The match was the most listened to in the ten-year history of ESPNRadio.com. “We’re off to a flying start,” said Glenn Enoch, ESPN’s Vice President for integrated media research.
