Soccer News: Chivas USA Goes Down As Mexico's Club TJ Wins San Diego Clasico 5-2

Chivas USA, playing a man down, falls 5-2 to Club Tijuana in preseason match.

GAME RECAP REPORT

San Diego soccer fans enjoyed great soccer last night as Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente regained their title as Champions of the San Diego Clasico, wining with a dominating 5-2 final score.  Club Tijuana defeated Major League Soccer (MLS) Chivas USA at the University of San Diego’s Torero stadium.

Can MLS teams stand up to Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente - Mexico’s First Division soccer team?  Last year, the team easily defeated the LA Galaxy, even with soccer star David Beckham on the field.

Chivas USA came out strong and Michael Lahoud scored the first goal of the night as fans cheered but the excitement and enthusiasm dwindled as the match continued. Once a second yellow card was issued to Chivas player Miller Bolanos, leaving the MLS team down a man after the 50th minute, the competition was sadly over.

Ready to defend their title and win new fans, the Xolos controlled the match easily and overwhelmed Chivas in the second half.  While this friendly game may be a wake up call displaying potential flaws which need adjusting before the start of the MLS season, the excitement of high level soccer in San Diego was undeniable.  America’s finest city has heart stopping passion for the world’s greatest sport and the Xolos were able to offer a fabulous exhibition of world-class soccer.

Chivas USA is determined to have a good season this year and announced yesterday signing three new players to their MLS roster. Chivas has added 22-year-old Mexican-American striker Cesar Romero, 33-year-old veteran midfielder Peter Vagenas along with 25-year-old center back Rauwshan MacKenzie.

These three new players join Chivas USA with the aniticpation of a strong new season.

Chivas USA is in preseason and will play against the Houston Dynamo at the Home Depot Center on March 11, 2012.
