San Diego Soccer Player in South Africa for the World Cup.
All around the world, soccer fans watched as America played Algeria in the World Cup. One of our "own" from San Diego, a Surf Soccer player was at the U.S. - Algeria game with her parents.
San Diego Surf GU7 player Presley McDonald is at the world cup and loving every minute. Presley's mom, Wendy McDonald says " "The atmosphere here is electric. I’ve never seen this type of support in any sport. The entire stadium is filled with U.S. supporters!"
McDonald Continued "loves her first World Cup! Although I think we will need to retire the vuvuzela after the tournament."
Presley McDonald's coach, Mario Mrakovic says "When I first met Presely, she was shy and has now become an aggressive, hungry-to-play althlete with a brilliant work ethic. I know that being at the World Cup, or even just watching these World Cup games is inspiring and players can learn so much.”
Presley McDonald's family flew to South Africa for the World Cup and to cheer for the U.S. team. McDonald believes you can learn a tremendous amount from watching the best professional players as well as observe their commitment to soccer.
Coach Mario Mrakovic, aslo founder of San Diego Futsal, continues “Watching the World Cup really shows young players how the game is played. This is top of the top, best players in the world. It is really wonderful to watch the games; even kids that normally do not have a long attention span are fascinated and learning so much. Today’s young soccer players can enjoy talking to their parents, asking questions. Parents can make it fun for their children by asking questions such as: what part of foot did the pro use? What move did he make? This helps kids really get involved and to know the game. Even asking questions such as -- What did the player do wrong, Was that offside -- can be very valuable for tomorrow’s soccer stars.”

Coach
Mario Mrakovic is very passionate about soccer. When asked what is the most important lesson you can learn by watching the World Cup, his answer was “Passion!” Mrakovic says “Not sure how much passion you can feel and learn through the television, but passion is what soccer is all about. I have been to two World Cups -- the passion, the craziness, there is nothing like it, nothing comes close to this atmosphere and once a player feels it, the passion creates a lifetime love for soccer. It is really great. All ethnic groups coming together to celebrate one sport, soccer.”
"I knew the
U.S. would score. I am thrilled. America advancing in the world cup is so important for soccer in this country. This is truly wonderful."
McDonald will be cheering for the
U.S. to beat
Ghana and continue advancing in the
World Cup.
