Youth Soccer News: Chula Vista Pumas Premier FC and San Diego Mayas SC Bring TOPSoccer to Chula Vista

US Youth Soccer’s TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) has come to Chula Vista at the club level through a partnership between Chula Vista Pumas Premier FC (CVPFC) and San Diego Mayas SC. An agreement between SD Mayas SC President Cristobal Medina and CV Pumas President Oscar Zamora will bring this important program to San Diego’s South County. Currently TOPSoccer has programs with seven clubs around San Diego County.

TOPSoccer is US Youth Soccer’s community-based program that brings the soccer experience to young athletes with disabilities. The program is designed and administered by US Youth Soccer through a network of local clubs around the country. TOPSoccer “provides meaningful learning, development and physical participation opportunities to these young athletes through the game of soccer” (TOPSoccer.com).

The program is open to any youth player ages 4 to 19 who has a disability that limits his or her ability to play at their chosen level. These may include both physical and mental disabilities. Thousands of children have the chance through TOPSoccer to take part in a sport that transcends age and distance, uniting people all around the world.

The new partnership fills a gap in San Diego County and will provide this special experience to children in the South Bay area. The idea for the collaboration came about after Medina discussed the idea with CVPFC Vice President Hector Diaz. The decision was an easy one for CVPFC, which already had substantial community outreach efforts in place.

On August 26 the new partnership celebrated as teams participated in La Jolla Impact’s ninth annual Soccer Day. “The long anticipated dream to start a Top Soccer program in the South Bay became a reality for Mayas Soccer Club-CV Pumas Premier FC with the participation of one of our 'Special Teams' en el Top Soccer Day Tournament hosted by La Jolla Soccer League,” said Zamora.
