PSA GU12 started off the 2010 summer tournament season as finalists in the Newport Mesa Tournament over the Memorial Day Weekend.
The girls used this tournament as a springboard to transition from their spring indoor soccer season to summers outdoor full size fields. The weekend proved to be an outstanding outing for the girls as they made the finals and brought home this year’s first hardware with their second place finish to the tournament champions Fram CQ White.
The tournament proved to be an opportunity for the team’s newest players to shine. New to the team this year are Cameryn Boucher; Tabatha Macedo and Lindsay Stoner. Cameryn wasted no time making her presence felt by scoring the girls first goal of the season. Cameryn calmly tapped in a pretty back door goal off a Peyton Lott cross. Lott centered another pass later which was gathered in by Khalea Thompson who then found Danielle Leavelle for the finish; made even more outstanding by her nice left footed finish to the far post. This, the opening game of the season and tournament, ended as a 2-0 shut-out win over the Exiles.
Game two of the tournament proved to be a bigger challenge with the MB Sand and Surf putting up a fight to the finish. Lott and Boucher connected on what was essentially a mirror image of their pass and strike it game one. Boucher again in the right place at the right time slammed home her second goal of the tournament finishing off a ball that had eyes enough to scamper its way through a crowd only to find itself buried by the waiting Boucher. Later in the same half Samantha Tricoli would send a pass into Khalea Thompson who was taken down in the box for a PK. Stoner took the kick stepping up to punch this into the left corner and make the score 2-0. The Sand and Surf made good adjustments and battled back in the second half. This game ended in a 2-2 tie and the PSA girls advance to the finals on aggregate goals.

Tabatha Macedo our third team addition stepped up in this game with some huge saves as Goal Keeper. Most memorable was a save punched out by Macedo keeping a high right corner shot from the right side of the 18 out of the net. More saves like this kept the score at zero while the rest of the team worked together to string enough passes together to score. Fram finally found the goal on a late second half corner kick. PSA tried to rally and almost scored on their own corner kick headed just over the goal by Emily Rodriguez with less than 2 minutes remaining. The game and tournament ended with this 1-0 loss giving Fram CQ the championship.
All in all an outstanding outing and a wonderful start to the new season with a positive start, room for growth and plenty of anticipation of positive things to come!
