College Soccer News: A Knight and a Red Raider named Disney Soccer/NSCAA Players of the Week

UCF junior forward Deshorn Brown and Texas Tech freshman forward Janine Beckie have each been named Disney Soccer/NSCAA Player of the Week.

Brown recorded a stellar 11 points last week in the Knights’ two games. The Manchester, Jamaica, native started the week with a hat trick and an assist in UCF’s 4-3 double-overtime win over Memphis, though he sat out the first half due to injury. He followed up with a pair of goals against UAB. He leads Conference USA with 29 points on 13 goals and 3 assists and earned his first league Offensive Player of the Week award.

During the 2012 summer Brown played for Reading AC in the USL PDL and was one of eleven players named to the All-League Team. During the regular season, he scored 13 goals in 13 game for Reading. Before transferring to UCF, Brown attended University of Mobile where he was a two-time NAIA All-America First Team selection.

Beckie tallied a pair of goals in Texas Tech’s 2-0 shutout over Oklahoma State in last Friday’s NSCAA College Game of the Week. The Highlands Ranch, Colo., native’s two goals brought her season total to a team-leading 11, which leads all freshmen in the conference. Additionally, Beckie recorded her fourth game-winning goal and her second multi-goal game of the year.

The Valor Christian High School alumna was named the 2012 Gatorade Colorado Player of the Year and was a member of the 2009 and 2010 Colorado High School All-Pioneer League team. Beckie was the leading scorer for her REAL Colorado U16 Regional Championship team in 2010 and a member of the U.S. U18 Women’s National Team in 2011-2012.
