Youth Soccer News: Surf BU15 Report in From Nationals

San Diego Surf Soccer Coach Paul Currie' s Barcelona Style of Play Takes His Team To The Top.  Surf BU15 are at the Nationals and have just completed their first match: San Diego Surf (CA-S) vs Solar Chelsea 96 (N-TX).  Currie's Surf BU15 battled to a 1-0 score claiming the win. After a scoreless, back and forth first half, Surf grabbed the game winner from Andrew Ogilvy in the 56th minute as the only goal of the match.  Paul Currie talked to SN and let us know how his team is doing.

OK Performance and Fantastic Results

San Diego Surf Soccer Club's BU15 Academy are at the 2011 U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships in Phoenix, AZ competing against the winners from Regions I, II, and III Regional Champions.

Coached by former pro soccer player Paul Currie, this exceptionally talented and highly skilled team of players earned the coveted title of Champions in last month's Far West Regionals in Boise, ID and now playing for the National Title.  Today was the first day of the Nationals and San Diego Surf Soccer took on Solar Chelsea 96 (N-TX).  The first half ended 0-0 and Currie's Surf BU15 battled to a 1-0 score claiming victory against the highly competitive team from Dallas.  Surf's Andrew Ogilvy scored the only goal in the match in the 56th minute giving his team the one goal needed to win.

According to Coach Paul Currie, "This first game today was an OK performance with a fantastic result.  We won 1-0 against a good team with a fantastic forward who was hard to contain. Our goalie, Adrian Zendejas, was really fantastic and made at least half a dozen great saves.  While it was a team win, our goalie had a major part in our winning this game."

"The conditions are tough for the players. It was boiling hot weather and the team hasn't really played together since we won the Regionals but boys pulled it together.  The team has great unity.  The National competition is super intense and difficult.  Our player are resting now, drinking gallons of water and are watching the MLS All Star team take on Manchester United," says Currie.

Coach Currie says, "For the players now, it is all about recovery.  After this mornings game, the team relaxed and stayed out of the sun.  We always eat together and play together.  The boys have been playing xBox and watching TV as they mentally prepare for the next game."
