Sockers, Vortex Hit Highs, LowsThe San Diego Sockers broke their own PASL record with their 9th straight regular season victory Saturday while the Ohio Vortex extended their record losing streak to 12 games. Both streaks date back to last season.
San Diego survived a formidable challenge by the Anaheim Bolts, but rallied from 6-5 down to spoil the Bolts home opener, 10-6. The Sockers got three goals and three assists from Kraig Chiles and two goals each from Brian Farber and Eric Wunderle and gained the lead on Dan Antoniuk's blistering shot from outside the yellow line.
Ohio fell to 0-2 with a 9-7 loss to Detroit, the only team they've played so far this year. Detroit built an 8-3 lead, but the young Vortex showed some pluck and made a game of it in the fourth quarter.
Player of the Week
Kraig Chiles, San Diego SockersThe reigning PASL MVP came into the season fitter than last year, which could be bad news for the rest of the league if Saturday's season opener was any indication. Chiles collected three goals and three assists to help rally San Diego to a 10-6 win.

Don't Dautt the MonsoonThe Phoenix Monsoon made their PASL debut with a 5-4 overtime win over Revolucion Tijuana and starring in goal for Phoenix was former longtime Mexican First Division goalkeeper Oscar Dautt. He got the win on Saturday, but was credited with a loss in relief in the Monsoon's 6-5 loss on Sunday.
Who the Eller Hughes? The Cincinnati Kings signed Allen Eller to replace Jeff Hughes who was lost to free agency. Eller picked up where he left off with the Ohio Vortex by scoring three goals and an assist in his Kings debut. It proved to not be enough as Cincinnati uncharacteristically allowed 11 goals and lost 11-9 to Louisville.
Louisville, San Diego to Open at Home Against Rivals After spoiling Cincinnati and Anaheim's home openers, the Louisville Lightning and San Diego Sockers will return home to open against those same Kings and Bolts. The Sockers are 16-0 at home all-time in the regular season, while the Bolts will be playing their first road game.
