Pro Soccer News: Jan Eric Nordmo Joins Real San Jose Coaching Staff
The Ohlone College men's soccer mentor assumes first-team coaching duties
San Jose of the West Conference of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) have announced a new addition to their coaching staff for the Summer 2011 season. Jan Eric Nordmo - the decorated coach of the Ohlone College men's soccer team - has been hired as Real San Jose's new first-team coach, Manager Nick Arellano announced this week.
"Jan is an excellent addition to the Real San Jose organization," said Arellano, who also said he and Nodrmo have admired each other's work for several years. "His record of success speaks for itself and I know he will make RSJ a better team and organization. I am happy he is with us."
Nordmo has coaching experience with Los Gatos High School, the University of Santa Cruz and the U.S. Olympic Developmental Program. Richard Johnson and Leo Recinos will remain in the trainer position and goalkeeper coach, respectively. Nico Arellano and Daniel Hughes coach the RSJ youth squad.
"I am very pleased and excited to be involved in the Real San Jose squad," said Nordmo. "I have seen the team and believe there is true grassroots quality soccer here. This is a wonderful place for aspiring professional players to get their start. It is an honor to be a part of developing the amateur game again.
"Hopefully we will see these young men continue to inspire other youngsters and it is anticipated that they to will play on a bigger stage one day."
Ohlone College was struggling when Nordmo was hired as an assistant in 2008. He became head coach in 2009 and led the team to the brink of its first playoff appearance in more than a decade as he was named Conference Division Coach of the Year. Three Ohlone players from that team received votes for the league's Most Valuable Player award. He was named Coach of the Year for the South Coast Conference in 2010.
Nordmo's credentials also include a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) 'A' license - the country's highest coaching credential. His teams have competed at the national level and in international competitions in Mexico, Canada, the United Kingdom and Holland.
Nordmo is a native son of Santa Clara County. He graduated from Santa Clara's Wilcox High before attending the University of Washington. In addition to his coaching triumphs, Jan is also known for his work with Off the Wall Soccer, Arena Soccer Centers, Inc. of Santa Clara. He is also part-owner of Chico Sports Arena LLC and co-founder of the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL).
Real San Jose will played the Bay Area Ambassadors in a Northwest Division match at Yerba Buena H.S. last Saturday, April 16. RSJ lost their first match of the 2011 season at San Diego Boca by a 2-1 score on April 2nd. In their last match, Bay Area lost to 2010 NPSL champion Sacramento by a 4-1 score on April 9th.
