Youth Soccer News: Nott’s Forest BU11 Red win SD United Cup and RSF Attack Summer Classic

Nott’s Forest BU11 Red team has had a busy summer preparing for their AAA Presidio League season. The team started out winning their own Memorial Day Forest Cup, were finalists at Slammer’s Cup in Orange County, and really caught fire winning their last two tournaments in the top bracket of each.

The San Diego United Summer Challenge took place over the weekend of August 4-5. Nott’s opened up play against the hosts, SD United, and battled hard to come out with a 0–0 tie. The team left with the feeling that a rematch was in store. The second game was an easier game against a good Albion Red team that they had beaten in the finals earlier in the summer. The game ended with a 2-0 victory for Nott’s.

On Sunday, the third game was against the top Aztecs team, and despite having to work a bit harder, the boys prevailed again with a 2-0 victory. As predicted, the final would see Nott’s vs. SD United for the cup. SD United had won this title 3 years straight at this age and were determined to keep the streak going. In a repeat of game 1, the teams ended with a 0-0 tie and were pushed to double overtime periods and penalty kicks. In PKs, Nott’s was flawless and took advantage of one SD United miss to beat them with a 5-4 PK victory. This was the second time this summer that the boys have won a tournament without giving up a single goal in the run of play!

The RSF Attack Summer Classic took place over the weekend of August 18 and 19. Nott’s opened up play against their familiar foes, the Albion Red team. Again, Nott’s got off to a slow start but ended up with a 1-0 victory without too much difficulty. The second game was against the hosts, Rancho Santa Fe Attack (RSF), and proved to be a much bigger challenge. The boys came out fast and held a 2-0 lead into halftime. Nott’s got a little too comfortable with the lead and gave up a late goal to make it close at the finish, 2-1.

Already having qualified for the finals on Saturday, the third game against a good Del Mar Sharks team on Sunday was just a tune up and finished 3-1 in favor of Nott’s. The rematch with RSF was set, but this time the finals would move to a new field, the Hickman sports complex where Nott’s trains year-round. The boys were determined to win and not let RSF celebrate on Nott’s home turf. The game was a physical battle back and forth, with Nott’s getting another early goal and settling into their game plan. RSF fought hard but could not crack the defense. Nott’s added another late goal to bring home the championship with a final 2-0 score.

Congratulations to the Nott’s team for their hard work and success on and off the field: Aidan Risse, Alonso Garcia, Brenden Estes, Caleb Palacios, Denzel Zepeda, Devon O’Malley, Hunter Worswick, Jacob Frushone, Jonny Castro, Liam Bailey, Liam Gillies, Marco Abbiate, Noah Gitler, Thomas Marques, Zack Sievers, Coach Mark Baena.
