Club Soccer News: Nomads U14 Academy Wins U15 Albion Cup Running off their third straight tournament victory in 2010, the Nomads U14 Academy boys captured the U15 Albion Cup in San Diego over the July 17-19 weekend. "Winning the Arsenal Winter Showcase and the Nomads Coaches Showcase tournaments was rewarding, but playing against teams with boys one or two years older and coming away with this result is special," said Paul Holohan, the Nomads U14 Coach.

The Nomads side has a core group of soccer players that have grown up together inside the Nomads system, and there is no question that adds to their team concept. Success continues to build. The team has put together two back-to-back 30 plus win seasons through 2008 and 2009. In the Albion Cup, the Nomads won their bracket after stumbling early to the Poway Vaqueros in a tight 3:2 contest. "To play through the tournament and beat Poway 4:0 in the finals in our second encounter tells me a lot about our team," said Coach Holohan. "It was a great competitive response and that's something we'll try to build on going into the fall season." One of the hallmarks of the Nomads' success over the years has been built around their trademark passing game and the team defensive concept. What's changed according to Holohan is the team's success in the final third. In the Albion Cup, the Nomads were dangerous offensively, scoring 12 goals in 5 games against U15 teams. The Nomads will face off in their final summer tournament next month at the 6th annual West Coast Futbol Classic held in Orange County.
