Win Moves Flash up Table as WPSL Elite Race Tightens

Spanish international Adriana netted a first half brace and Emily Van Egmond, Jodi-Ann Robinson and Katy Frierson were also on target as Western New York Flash demolished FC Indiana 5-0 in WPSL Elite action at Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis. It was a professional performance from Flash as they punished careless FC Indiana twice in the first 10 minutes to ensure three points.

The Flash started off strong, and in the fourth minute team leading scorer Adriana received a cross from Omolyn Davis and hit the upper 90 of the net. WNY continued to apply early pressure to FC Indiana, and Australian international Van Egmond struck a ball from outside the 18 yard box off of a captain McCall Zerboni layoff.

Just before the half, the Flash would kill any hopes that Indiana had when Adriana pounced on a giveaway by the Indiana back four and scored her second of the match. The game went into the half 3-0 in favor of the Flash.               

The Flash substituted five players for the second half and continued their dominance over FC Indiana, with Canadian international Robinson scoring her first goal of the season off a Laura Heyboer pass in the 57th minute. Frierson capped off the scoring with a beautiful free kick in the top corner in the 67th minute.

"It was an excellent performance; our best road performance of the season," Head Coach Aaran Lines stated. "There have been other top teams come to Indiana and struggle. For us to come out the way we did, scoring those two early goals and performing the way we did, was crucial to set up ourselves up for our top of the table clash at Chicago on Saturday evening."                                                                                   

The Flash play the Chicago Red Stars at Benedictine University on Saturday, July 14, at 7:00 p.m. CT in a game with important implications for the final standings.
