Soccer News: SoccerStar – San Diego Releases New Promo Video Prior to September Program Debut
San Diego – Soccer Support has released the first promotional video from their new soccer reality program Soccer Star – San Diego. The footage is a small insight into what U.S. Soccer fans can expect from the show when it debuts on Wednesday, September 5.
Soccer Star – San Diego is an online reality TV show which showcases local soccer talent, local clubs, businesses and the City of San Diego. The show offers young players between the ages of 18 and 23 the chance to begin their professional soccer career through a training agreement with the San Diego Flash Soccer Club. The Flash are coached by renowned English Premiership soccer player and Fox Soccer Analyst Warren Barton.
The show, which concluded filming in late June, saw the 11 finalists participate in matches and skills challenges, and be educated on life as a professional sportsman.
Soccer Star Producer Ryan Ginard said that the opportunities stemming from this show for local players should not be underestimated. Last year one member of the Flash, Ryan Guy, signed a contract with the Major League Soccer (MLS) New England Revolution on the word of Coach Barton. This year two players from the recently completed 2012 campaign, team captain Adrian DuBois and midfielder Sergio Valle-Ortiz, had tryouts with the current MLS Western Conference leaders San Jose Earthquakes.
“Dreams are created on the back of innovative projects such as this,” said Ginard. “Players who feel they have fallen through the cracks get a genuine shot at kick-starting a professional soccer career.”
“This show is unique in that there is nothing like this out there in the U.S.,” Ginard explained, “and we hope that aspiring soccer players will be able to relate to it and be inspired to continue to work hard on and off the field to achieve their goals.”
Soccer Star – San Diego was created, filmed and produced locally with no budget. Advertising dollars were sourced from a crowd funding website and the producers are excited by the premise of the show and what it could do for the exposure of soccer nationwide if picked up by a network.
Producers will also be holding a special preview party of the show for San Diego soccer fans on Wednesday evening, July 25, at the Bare Back Grill in the Gaslamp district. The event kicks off with a viewing party from 5:30 p.m. for the 2012 AT&T MLS All-Star Game against Chelsea FC with a special clip of the upcoming TV pilot following shortly afterwards. The Bare Back Grill is located 624 E St., between 6th Ave & 7th Ave. To RSVP your spot, email Ryan Ginard at ryan@soccerstarsandiego.com.
