TOURIST TIP: If you’re a player or a spectator you should know about Home Plate, the bar and restaurant on the walkway just above the soccer fields and the adjoining softball diamond. You won’t find a better place to relax with a terrific view of the fields and UCSD.

The UC San Diego’s men’s and women’s soccer team are building on the success of last year’s tournament and already have over 30 men’s, women’s and coed teams entered.
The GOOD NEWS: There’s still time to get a team entered by contacting
ebucchere@ucsd.edu or calling 571 345-8745.
Since there are probably quite a few of you out there who love the game but are not attached to any team and would like to free-lance it, UCSD organizers have set up a player pool from which some more teams can be formed.
All you have to do is contact them and they’ll take down the information and let you know if they have a fit for you. It’s a pretty simple way of getting in to one of most enjoyable tournaments around for young and not-so-young adults. There’s also still room for those of you want to organize your own team to play in the tournament.
The UCSD 7v7 has a lot to offer:
Great location – UCSD is about a scenic a locale as you can find.
Great fields – The soccer fields are among the best in Southern California. Great competition – There’s be several teams populated by college players.
Great proximity to the beaches.
Free parking – Always a bonus.
Good reason to play:
Proceeds from the event benefit the UCSD men’s and women’s soccer programs.
“It was a lot of fun last year and the level of competition was pretty good,” said Jon Pascale, head coach of the UCSD men’s team. Joe continued, "We had a lot of alumni teams and UC Santa Cruz and Foothills College sent a couple of teams down from Northern California.”
As 3v3 tournaments are a ton of fun for kids developing ball control, decision-making and scoring skills so are 7v7 tournaments for adults who have mastered these skills.
The field size is 70 X 50 yards, there are 20-minute halves and three games are guaranteed to each team. The roster limit is 12 with 7 players on the field at any one time. The La Jolla Nomads men’s team and the San Diego Comets women’s team won their divisions last year. “The games are played at a pretty fast pace with a lot of attacking, which appeals to everyone because they’re never far from a goal and everyone loves to score,” said Pascale. “As a result we usually have high-scoring games.”
